newbie question

Thanks coincollector101. its much appreciated. now is it better to go to a local coin shop to sell them or should i sell them on ebay? any other suggestions on where to sell these coins at

Only use ebay as a last resort or if you're an experienced ebay seller. ---just my two cents (which is now worth more than 4 cents due to coinflationary rise in metals prices).

I was wondering any tips on were to sell or how to sell my 40% I'm sitting on 129 of them they all have roll rash but are in fine state from what little i know on grading any info would be much appreciated also what would be a good price to expect out of them? thank you kindly

I would suggest calling all your local coin stores and ask "how much are you paying fod 90% and 40%"

They will tell you something like 8.5 times face.

My local dealer right now should be quoting 8.68 on 90% and 3.24 on 40%

So your $64.50 in 40% halves would go for $208.98

(129 halves = $64.50 times 3.24 = $208.98)

Call around because what dealers pay will vary. Never go to a pawn shop.

That's the truest thing I've heard all day. Regarding coins, pawn shops will do nothing but rip you off.

I don't understand. You are the one selling. If you don't like the offer you can move on. I would think that the pawn shop has access to refiners for all their jewelery that they need to move. I also I wouldn't be surprised if they gave you a good quote as long as you don't look like you frequent pawn shops. Right now my best buy quotes comes from a guy in a pawn shop.

You're lucky, 65gt. A good pawn shop is a rare thing. Every pawn shop around me rips off everyone trying to sell jewelry or coins. In my experience, they feed off of people's desperation and ignorance. I have nothing against pawn shops as a business, in fact I'm glad such places exist. But every pawn shop broker I've ever talked to had a one-track mind to screw me out of my money. I have never once been quoted anything even close to what a decent coin dealer would offer me. I'm sure not all of them are like that, though.

And I stand corrected:

One other thing. I like using x face but it is also important to know how much behind spot they are offering you. Over the past year the discount (amount behind spot) as been from .85 - 1.40 per ounce. To figure this amount for 40% coins take the spot price and subtract (x face/.295). Here is an example based on 3.5 face and 13.21 spot

13.21 - 11.86 "(3.5 face /.295)" = 1.35 behind spot

Best of luck

Yesterday a coin dealer here said they would pay $1.25 per coin.
I think I can shop around and get a better price.

You can do better than $1.25 per 40% Kennedy, but don't expect spot. Get used to figuring in terms of "times face" because that's the most common way to buy/sell junk silver. HH!

just got offer 1.63 a piece from a local coin dealer. i have someone in line first and figure ill give them at least till tomorrow night but then I've got to get it sold off so i can get my box Monday
