Newbie question

I use the file edge on a fingernail trimmer- works great

Is there a better way to open MWR? My fingernails are taking a beating from opening them the old fashioned way.

Cut up some limes today! Yikes that hurt!

Paper or plastic?

ya use a knife, pocket/pearing knife. cut the top part off, take the knife across the coin into the wrapper end, and cut it off from there... keep knife facing away from your body :)

Paper, haven't found any plastic yet. I open them at work or in the car. Guess I'll start carrying my pocket knife more regularly since I'm hooked on the silver hunt!

Definitely carry a pocket knife! It's a good idea for a number of reasons.

On paper rolls, I usually just rip off one end, then lay my left hand flat, and pour the contents of the roll out in a long line into my left hand. Basically, the coins are all lined up the same way, they are just not in the roll any more but laying in my hand. That way I can do an edge check and sound check pretty quickly from that position.

On the plastic rolls, I usually bend them pretty well (60degrees or so?) and then cut the plastic with my thumbnail at the silver coin. That will let me grab the silver and then a little squishing of the roll back and forth with my thumb and forefinger will get the rest of the coins out very easily.

Happy hunting!

On those paper ones I take a sharp knife and cut off the very end. Then flip it over and cut out the other end. Then put your thumb on one end and another finger over the other end and squeeze the tool together. Pick it up and the remaining wrapper will peel right off. I can search about 5 tools a minute if I hurry.

On the plastic ones I make a small cut where the silver is and pull it out. Replace with clad dime and small piece of tape.

I use a very small hacksaw. The serrated teeth prevent the slipping you can have with a knife. But check that first coin before you cut, the saw will damage the first coin.

Just poke the knife through like this, and push the sharp edge out to cut off more of the roll, then just pull the end off, and your good to go!

Seriously... I can rim search a box of halves in 5 minutes or less sometimes... i couldnt imagine not using a knife to open rolls...
