Newbie needs mineral/gem I.D. help.

First timer, I have these mineral chunks with crystal structures and gemstones inside that are black and yellow. These are from my grandpa that lived in Utah in the 30's and mined and collected. They look like layered hot springs or?! HELP?

My guess is citrine (yellow) and Smokey quartz (black)
