The XP Deus just came today and I'm super excited! I just ordered the Starter kit (no remote) and thought I'd read the instructions fairly well. I powered on the headphones and immediately got the number "32" and the menu screen flashing back and forth repeatedly. Decided either the coil or headphones must have needed charging so I plugged in the charging unit for 60 minutes, disconnected earphones and coil from the charger and was now able to cycle through the menu just fine.

Problem. I tested the detector outside for a while in the late afternoon then pushed the - then + buttons. The headphone powered off but the coil continued to flash every few seconds??

Turned the unit back on, did a few air tests this time and repeated the "off" procedure. Again the headphones power down but the coil continues to flash. Is it telling me I need to charge it more?

Appreciate the help

That sounds normal to me, mine flashes all the time. When you charge the coil the light will turn solid until charges then long blinks, the normal position is flashing.

Thanks Idburg

Appreciate the help. A real beginners question, I know, but thanks for taking the time to respond.

It will take a little time to get use to the sound. I use andy's coin program in areas that are not trashy, but I love Gary's Hott program for trashy areas just work it extremely slow and listen for the faint signals in the 91 95 range. I like for coins a lot and that causes me to overlook the signals from 30 to 65, there is a lot of junk there but also a lot of gold and rings. Don't hesitate to search places that have been hunted out you will be amazed at what is still there.

Thanks again Larry. We have a solid block of old buildings downtown that were built out of brick at some point before 1900. One building in the middle of the block burned down or was demolished and never rebuilt - just used as a dirt parking lot when cars began to arrive. I've hunted it for years but the lot is filled to the brim with bottle caps, glass, nails (also used many times to change car oil) and generally offers the worst possible conditions for detecting - don't even think about ground balancing, not a square inch with out metal.
The Fisher CoinStrike once came up with a Jennings 22 Saturday night special down at least 10 inches which someone apparently did not want to see the light of day again. Police ran a check and found no link to a crime so I actually got the gun back after like 60 days. The Fisher 1266x surprisingly did come up with a very faded 1911 Liberty nickel but in all the years since, its been bottle caps, clad, and old junk that I've harveted.
I am leaving the XP Deus in default mode for the next few weeks to learn the sounds but will visit the lot tomorrow - not expecting miracles, but it will be interesting to see what the XP will come up with.
Appreciate the advice.

I started looking in areas that old buildings once stood and had a lot of trouble with pop cans and bottle caps ringing in at the same vdi's as good targets. I learned to distinguish the volume and bleed over of the tones. If you press the options button once and then the " pinpoint and plus" buttons at the same time, you can turn on the "advanced" feature, the visualization screen will help in identifying good targets. It's not fool proof but every little bit helps. When are target is really strong and your pin pointer doesn't see it close to the surface it will be a can or large object. The ferrous side of the horseshoe helps also, if it rings like a silver dollar and the pattern is in the ferrous side it has iron in it. What size of coil are you using?

Hey Larry , Ken and I have just the headphone remote, I bought a wristband for mine.
This winter Ill spend the $700 and get the remote.

Ken reread the top of page 19 so you don't get that high pitch on the outside of your swings.

Thanks bitterclingr: I probably should have made the connection but the lack of a decimal obviously led me to think error code. Good luck, I'm ahead 4 cents and a 45 cal shell with about 60 minutes into hunting : > )

Glad your getting the hang of it. AWESOME detector!
