Hey guys, first time posting to this and first week metal detecting and already addicted. Went in my backyard which was covered in nails and a few clad and also a nearby park with a baseball field. I am using a BH tracker iv and usually detect with discrimination on and sensitivity turned to 1o'clock. I hunted both places for 2-3 hours each and found nothing but $4.64 in clad and nails and bottle caps every time I turn off discrimination mode, that is why I turned it on for most of my hunt. I was wondering if anyone had advice whether or not I should turn off disc mode or keep it on and what I should listen for to find rings and other coins that don't come up under disc mode? I plan on making atlantic city beach my next hunt so hopefully I'll find something actually worth posting!

Congrats on a good start. Most of us ( me anyway ) hunt using some discriminate in most situations. Might be a good idea to take a very small gold ring or similar, if you have or can borrow one, and turn up the discriminate until it eliminates the ring. That will give you a working idea as to the maximum to turn the discriminate up to ( Leave it below where the ring cuts out ) if you want to find jewelry. Unfortunately most pull tabs and large foil etc fall in the same range but you will be able to eliminate lots of the iron and small trash at this setting. I am unfortunately not knowledgeable about your particular machine but most work in a similar manor. Hope to see many posts from you in the future. Best of luck.:icon_thumleft:

Good job, better than my 52 cent's in three week's LOL. Still trying to figure this out. At this speed I should be able to upgrade when I'm in a walker or wheel chair !

Sensitivity as high as possible without falsing. Discrimination at noon. Toggle switch set at TONE.

Works best for me. Keep at it and in time youll know what the beeps signify.

HH.

Nice finds nldawgs18! When i first started out i was using that same detector. And in my opinion i always used the tone setting. After a while i started to really learn the different tones given off. And factor in how strong or weak the signal was.
HH to you!

Well Done! I can't tell ya much about your detector but I can say swing slow and steady, works great for me when digging small deep objects.
