Hello everyone. I'm a Newbie to the forum and to MDing. I have about $1000.00 total to spend and have been reading quite a bit. I have decided on the Garrett AT Gold...based on my budget...and the fact that I want to get a hand Pinpointer, digger, etc.

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the AT Gold they could share with me.

I called myself ATGoldGuy when I registered...not very original huh?

Thanks!

does anyone have an opinion they could share with me on the AT Gold?

I think you are making a mistake living in Ohio. The AT Gold is way too sensitive and runs too high a frequency for regular coinshooting. It is going to LOVE trash and deep iron. The AT Gold is supposed to be a nuggetshooter. You would be MUCH better off with the AT Pro, Tesoro Vaquero, Minelab 505, yadda, yadda, yadda. If you want a gold nugget machine, get a real one: Fisher Goldbug Pro; Tesoro Lobo Super Traq; Whites GMT; Teknetics G2.

Sorry if I sound a little harsh, just trying to give you a heads up. :occasion14:

With my at gold i have the garret propionter, piranha from predator tools, and a lesche digger, this combination works great.:wav:

the at pro is a everything metal detecter correct it can just a easily shoot nuggets as it finds nails or coins correct

Thanks everyone for your help. I truly appreciate it. I think with my budget I'm going to go with the AT Pro

You'll do much better with the AT Pro as a 1st machine and being that your main focus isn't nugget hunting. The Gold version is a higher frequency machine with a pumped up gain better suited for raw gold hunting/prospecting. It also has a "True All Metal Non Motion Mode" which if you're just starting out will be more confusing to use than it's worth (good for the gold fields/streams) but bad for parks, schools, everyday hunting/coin shooting, etc.. You'll dig tons of iron/trash using that mode and quickly turn it off/forget about it - so - you'd be paying for that feature for basically not even using it!

alll you would have to do is get the gold coil for it couldnt you
