Have been on the site for about a week and just now noticed this forum. I just started detecting around the end of April. Bought a cheap detector first to see if a would like the hobby. Two weeks later ordered a legend and have been detecting at least five days a week since. Mostly old long gone homesites is my niche but occasionally do some of the other options. Like the woods and being away from the urban hassles. Happy to have a place with people who enjoy the hobby. Picture of some of the stuff I have found so far. Buckles, bridles and reeds

Cool finds. Look like a lot of people lost their harmonicas there! Congratulations on the finds and welcome to the forum from Oregon.

Welcome Lost in Georgia!

It appears to me you have already figured out the single most important thing - where to look! If you hunt under swing sets in the park you're likely to find pennies. You are out there in it! Over time you'll learn to identify places where homes once were (and where their outhouses were behind them).

There are sites that were once used by county fairs and revival meetings. Georgia has her share of bootlegger caches. And there are probably still some Civil War plants that haven't been recovered.

Always get permission from the property owner, fill your holes, and have fun!

Good luck to all,

The Old Bookaroo
