Hello to everyone from central PA! I'm absolutely brand new to metal detecting. I received a Bounty Hunter IV for Christmas from my husband. I don't know anything about this hobby, but love digging through flea markets and tag sales for old interesting things- seem like this hobby just involves more actual digging.
I took the unit out of the box today, and after the suggested practice with coins, nail, and aluminum foil, went to mess around in my snowy front yard.I found bits of aluminum, a washer, what appears to be part of an old button, and about a foot down, lots of metal. I removed some rusted metal bands and buried deeper there is what seems to be a large pot or container. There was also a neck to an old bottle broken off.
I guess it is probably somebodies old trash, but am curious now. If any one has any suggestions on how to dig safely ( maybe there are some neat intact bottles there, too) I would welcome them. Thanks!
