Hello!

I recently had a new home built on 1 acre in Wise County, Texas. During the excavation, I had the builder save all of the sandstone boulders, dug a pond and have surrounded my home and pond with the beautiful stone.

The back third of my lot, where the pond is, has not been sodded, so it is still dirt and rocks. I have enjoyed exploring and have collect numerous quartz, agate, petrified wood and other stones. I have explored the internet to identify the various types of rocks and have especially studied the sites describing North American Indian Artifacts.

I have several examples I would like to share, but for now I will only share two or three. I noticed the polished flat bottom and the places for the fingers and hands. On some, I see where the oils have stained the stone.

I have absolute no experience, so these may just be rocks, so I will be very disappointed. Please let me know what you think.

Those are worn natural rocks, probably at some time they spent a lot of time tumbling down a stream or river.

Nothing in pictures say artifacts. Just Fyi, don't get caught up in places for fingers or how rock fits in your hand, it will mislead you every time.

Just rocks for now but don't be disappointed. You're on the right track by doing some research. Lots of good artifacts found in Texas.

Those rock specimens look very much like gastroliths/dinosaur gizzard stones. Certain dinosaurs would regurgitate their food to their young, thus expelling some of the stones in the process. It is something that these stones are still smooth and glossy. You might want to take them to a near by museum and find out if the stones have been found in your area.

Here are a few examples that I have found in my area. Your first sample looks more like one.

Old Digger,

Out of all of these rocks I found in my backyard, maybe for or five might be worth checking out for gastroliths. Just for my curiosity. Another opportunity to research! If you have input, I would appreciate it.
