Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and prospecting all together. I will be going out tomorrow for the first time so wish me luck. I got my stream sluice in the mail yesterday and ready to try it out.

I guess I better tell something about me and what got me into this. I'm a 37 year old male and live in a small town in NC. After watching Gold Rush from the beginning, (yes, I know what your thinking) I wondered if gold could really be found. Doing a little research on my area, I found there used to be about 5 gold mines about 20 miles from me. Also, around those mines it is said placer gold can still be found. So why not me? Also, unlike California where you are fighting for a spot, I have never heard anyone say anything about gold in this area. I work with some guys from the area and asked them about gold, they had no idea what I was talking about. So like I said, I'm going to find out for myself.

Welcome, from central mississippi! Good luck out there, hope you find a nugget the size of your fist. Remember, loose lips sink ships! Lol

well I just got back from my first time out. I got nothing, I think I know some things I did wrong. I did about 30 test pans in a few places, never even saw black sand. I have no idea how deep bedrock would be. I finally settled one an inside curve where there were rocks 3 to 4 inches big. It was a big gravel bar maybe a foot higher than the creek itself. All I had brought was a pan and a garden shovel. I hit the leading edge and got down about a foot. The rocks were getting smaller and nothing but blond sand.

I was getting upset and about ready to pack it in when I heard a lot of noise around me. 4 wheelers and people talking. I was thinking it might be people coming to tell us to leave. My girlfriend who was with me went to check it out and then called me over. When I got there the first thing I noticed was a bazooka sluice set up in the creek. They were in the process of setting up two highbankers. We talked to them awhile and they said they had found good gold there.

So here I go back to my car to get my sluice and a real shovel. Head back to the same gravel bar and work it for about another hour. Then I got to thinking maybe this isn't a gravel bar at all. Maybe it's someones tailings. At that point I packed it up and headed for home. A big time rookie mistake. I wish I could come on here and say I found the mother load but maybe next time.

Welcome aboard and happy hunting!

Welcome and better luck next time (show me the gold) GL and HH
