finds2.webpfinds1.webpHello from NC. This is an incredible site with lots of info and fine folks.

So I am very new to detecting. I bought two units, one for self and 15 YO son. We own some property in SC with lots of history so thought it would be a fun hobby. Yesterday was our first time out, honestly we were really excited and basically took our Garretts out of the box, powered em on and started hunting. we found a ton of stuff, mostly old square nails and lots of weird metal objects that I couldn't identify but........we did find two interesting things. Our first coin......a 1891 Indian Head Penny in great condition about 6 in deep and a glass jar, that was filled with dirt about 8 inches deep. When cleaned and researched, we had a Cheseborough MFG, New York jar, acording to info I researched, approx late 1800's version.

Now we are hooked! Now I need to spend some time figuring out how to use these Garrett AT Pro and AT Gold machines to get the most bang for the hunt. Tips would be appreciated!

That's some sweet finds, newbs or not. It sounds like you're well on your way to more good finds on that SC spot.
My tips would be dig everything and get as much practice as possible, oh and post pics!

New Member here as of March 16, 2014. I am building a intermediate level commercial placer gold recovery trammel in my garage. It is 22" X 9' with 6' vibrating hopper and 1/2" and 1" classifier plus sluice boxes. Electric drive is the intention plus an electric drive conveyor. I intend to power it with a 8,000 watt gas generator.

I would like to post ongoing photos of my build but am not sure how to do that here and which forum to use...Advice ??

Thanks bareb09

Welcome and congrats.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Great start. I recently joined the forum but have been detecting since the 80's ....... I'm still am amazed at all those hidden treasures. Good luck to you and your son & enjoy the family time. ........................ Happy Hunting.

Heya welcome and thanks for posting your finds!!! Many join and don't post finds (I'm guilty of that) cant wait to see what comes out of the ground next. again welcome and HH

watch the dvd the gold came with a few times. Keep a little note pad with you record the numbers from the machine dig your find and record what you found. This may sound tedious and take some of the fun out of detecting, but It helped me with my at gold. Dig every find. learn the tones on the machines. you will learn quickly what is in the ground by the tone and the numbers your machine produce. Use machine on all metal mode for the first while. It just takes some time and lots of hunts. I got pretty comfortable with my gold in about two months. (hunting approx 3 days a week three to four hours each hunt average). hope this helps. happy hunting!
