After waiting in the BACK ORDER queue, at a large interest dealer, for an ATP....I changed my order to the Fischer F70. Although I'm still quite new yo detecting, I wanted to start as close to top as possible. I've done enough reading to know, most people who hate these units, probably have them configured wrong. She will be here on Thursday and I'll be in my local park on Friday. This is an old park and in 5 years have never seen anyone detecting there. I have combed it with my ACE 350 with limited success. Lots of trash, clad and fake bling. If I could get some advice on a good 'beginner' setting, I intend on retrieving all the goodies I've missed.

Congrats on the new F70. What settings someone uses in one location may not be the best where your going to hunt. So best you can do is GB well and don't disc out pull tabs if you want to find gold rings. Your going to need a small sniper coil for faster and better pinpointing and you may not even need a trowel but a screwdriver to pop the coin out.

Sandman, one day short of having the unit in my hand, I belive that true. I also live in Oakland Co. and got the 11" DD thinking it would be better to start with in this area. As a verifiable equipment freak, I've already looked into other coils, but lack the requisite knowledge to make the proper decision. If I were to change the coil, the sniper coil is the better option?

Yes the sniper coil is the better option as it will get between the trash and find the stuff your looking for. Where in Oakland County are you? I am in Pontiac.

I live in Hazel Park, not a lot of detectorist around my city.

I don't have an F70, but I do have an F5 with a 11" dd, and a 5" dd. As far as I'm concerned, that makes for a pretty good rig. Both coils are great in high mineral soil, which we have here in the Pacific northwest, and the 5" makes for a killer in separating the junk from the good targets in trashy areas like public parks.

Hope this helps, and good luck and happy hunting with the F70!

I was quite fortunate to be early on the FedEx delivery route, because my F70 hit my door around 11am.

Some light assembly, 4 new duracell ultras, put on the carharts and hit the park. What an awesome little machine! I fully understand learning will take a lot of time. Nothing but junk in the bag, but that's okay for now.

The ground is still semi frozen. Some spots were rock hard. Others thawed to 2-4". Therefore, I kept the SENS 80 THRESH -2 TONES 3H SPEED Sl. Just listened to the tones, and watched the TID. Practiced pinpointing.

I don't think I GB'ed very will. The dirt meter fluctuated sometimes and occasional got chatty. A lot of my high tones were garbage. Come payday, I'll look into that 5" coil, I hope it will tighten the learning curve and help find better targets.

darn oakland county is getting busy!!!
Troy here

Hazel Park here. Keep in touch if your looking for someone to hunt with. I have been working a park by my house the last two days. Found a silver quarter 1946 and a silver nickel 1963 in the same hole yesterday. Just got home from a morning hunt where I found a dime 1961 in the same area. Searching an older corner if the park. Was told there were picnic tables there 30 years ago. Today its just a vacant corner.
