If only the world was covered in woodchips! After 3 hunts in a row of back-breaking digging in hard clay with nothing to show for it but trash, it was a nice break to swing for an hour or so in a tot lot last night and recover 39 coins and a little dog charm.

I tested out my Cen-Tech pinpointer for the first time and, boy, it helped especially in finding all the pennies (which are the exact color of woodchips).

Earlier in the day, I recovered this rusted end of a shotgun shell in my backyard, which reads "Western Xpert Made in U.S.A. No. 12". From what I've read, I think this dates to the '50s or '60s, so it was there long before my house (built in '86). Basically junk, but better than unrecognizable shreds of aluminum that I usually pull out of my yard.

Wood chips are fine for a break but stick with it digging up the aluminum scraps from the hard pack clay and your sure to find the good stuff masked underneath it.

Yeah better to push chips aside then digging the hard stuff, I call those days easy ones! nice finds

Glad you got that pinpointer. I feel lost when mine is left behind. When I get discouraged or just want to find clad, I head to the woodchips---so much easier!
