High Desert California
Hey all,

I posted an *I'm new here* post over in the Everything Else forum and decided to post todays findings.

I'm not only new to this forum, I'm new to MDing as well. (bought my first MD yesterday)

Today I went out in my yard. I'm on 2.5 acres located in the high desert of California so I don't expect to make some of the finds of you folks who's area has more history.

I did find a few nuts, nails, and the like. a penny of 1983 vintage, perhaps a good year for... something. A rusted something or other that I thought was a penny until I compared it to the other.

So it's a... what's it.

I also found a couple of things of vague interest. In talking to the former home owner, I learned a previous owner had a shop in the barn out back. He made the metal tokens (chips) for some of the Casino's in Vegas.

I found some of the raw material with the chips stamped out.

Now I just need to find some of the chips!!!

Since I'm new here... and since these finds are less than thrilling (LOL)

Here's a few other old things I've found around mines and old homesteads in the area.

I've found tons of old cans and containers... the tricky part is finding them without the extra perforations in them (bullet holes) lol.

Now you just need to find one of those cans FULL of coins or what ever might have been mined there..hopefully not coal ;D

Welcome aboard!!

You've got a good bit of history out there, just gotta look in the right spots. Just thinking about the days of the 49'ers makes me salivate. :o

i must say - that is some nice stuff - all indentifiable - and you can actually do something with it -
theres probably allot more where that came from - ;D LBP

Welcome to the best group of Dirt Diggers around. Thanks for posting & sharing
with us all. Looking forward to seeing more.......... HH BRINK

Not a bad first. The fun is just beginning.HH

I'm more of a Chargers fan... :D heh heh

With regards to my Metal Detector... It's a crap-tastic one. I dunno. Aside from probably having Attention Deficit Disorder (New hobbies monthly) I suffer from IG. Instant Gratification. So I went to the only place around that sells MD's and bought the best one they had.

It's a Bounty hunter "Treasure Pro". I'm sure it pales in comparrison to the units most of you fine folks have. I'm sure there are probably better, cheaper units out there... but it works (seemingly) and I'm ok with my purchase.

The cans and containers I've found so far have all been found using my good old fashioned keen sense of sight. :o

But now I'm looking forward to finding all those things I'm missing burried just under the surface.

Ride'on,

this might be good advice, look wherever people park, driveways, where people stop to go hunting game,or the old watering hole is a good one. i am in northern mich and this morning i found a 10 cent piece from Nederlanden. i got to learn how to post pictures. i even have a digital camera. good luck, Ken

Welcome crash, take your new detector out to where you be finding those cans and I bet you really start finding some great items. It starts slow and just keeps getting better. Welcome...Lance
