Good afternoon
Years ago my father and uncle were big into metal detecting. As a kid I would tinker but didn't get big into it. Several years ago my wife got me a beginners detector ( 8 y/o has now) then changed to a Garrett 250. After hitting some sites my old man use to hit and getting now luck I slowed the pursuit. Still interested and wanting to continue I did some studying. One of the major things I looked at was understanding how to spot "colonial sites". Well I am happy to say I figured it out.

After several months of periodic detecting at this one site I have pulled 2 large cents 1802&1803, several old forks and knives, and misc tools. Total buttons equaling 95. This site was obviously bulldozed over many years ago. With that I started screening it and have come up with many, many items. Yesterday I found what appears to be a Spanish 1/2 reale however it is pretty beaten up. In addition to the 95 buttons myself, son, and new friend have now found another 40+Buttons.

One of many question that I have is how do I know this coin is real and silver? image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

Thank you all for any help
George

Welcome Aboard GMoney! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting your state for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

Appreciate the help. A few have said it appears counterfeit from pictures. That the way it has a small blown out hole is weird. Any thought?

Welome to the forum.

Welcome from White Plains, NY! Wow, Great finds!!! I wish I had a place like that to hunt! :occasion14:

Does it show a year? Here is a 1839 Spanish Mexican 8 Reales I found. It was completely black when I found.
