Newb Hunting & dimes question

Hello.
I went to the bank & got a box of
Dimes / nicks / pennies.
& a roll of $1 & 50c pieces.

The teller asked "whats all the change for?"
I said a restaurant.

Then the Mgr asked me a bunch of questions
Including the account # of the restaurant.
I said i didnt own the restaurant.
He hassled me a bit more &
I forgot my pin # cuz i havnt used my card in months.
& he wouldnt take my order for a box of halves.
He said go to a bigger bank.

I should of re-set my pin but i forgot.
But they did give me some empty paper rolls for free.

I couldnt believe how heavy the boxes were !
I looked at the sides of the dimes thru the clear plastic
& couldnt see any silver.
I never found any silver.
Should i break them open & look closer?

Its $500 of dimes. I've seen the $250 box also, but they only
Had the 500 box.
Thanks!

Re: Newb Hunting & dimes question

I have never really found much in clear wraps, a few. but i work retail and take them to work to switch for the paper rolls so i don't mind them, it is a 2 for 1 search :P. If you got good eyes... then i wouldnt crack them open, try to find some questionable or dirty ones and look at them maybe.

But yea i have found most banks to always ask questions that is what i hate about this hobby. recently went to a branch and got a box of dimes, all the tellers were looking at me like wtf? but i wasnt questioned... was just awkward

"If you got good eyes"

I use a magnifying glass.
Whats better? magnifying glass or a loupe ?

I guess i'd get less hassle if I say I'm a collector.
Thanks!

Try a pair of magnifying glasses, I use a pair of old bi-focals, they work great and leave your hands free to open rolls.

Re: Newb Hunting & dimes question

Isn't it weird that asking for money from a person who's business is entirely money can be so awkward?

Re: Newb Hunting & dimes question

There's no point in lying about it..if you don't want to say.. then just decline to tell them. Just say you're looking for collectible ones that's it..nothing else.

I agree, I don't lie about it either. Just say I'm trying to complete my collection of half dollars. I still don't have a 70D, 1987D, even when I have my clad set complete I'm sure I'll never complete the Walkers/Barber set, so this will always work as a reason, and is true, though I don't mind keeping any of the silver ones... though I have only found a few so far, 1 walker, 1 ben, a few kens.
