The Washington Post today had a short blurb about the above mentioned Meteorite Auction being held at the Heritage Auctions October 14th. No address given. Highlighted pieces include a large chunk of the moon, no size or weight given, a 179 pound iron cosmic rock that evokes the Edward Munch's painting Scream. The moon piece is estimated to bring $340,000 to $380,00. Scream is estimated to bring $175,000 to $225,000.
Other listings include the Peekskill Meteorite, famous for falling onto a Chevy Malibu in 1992, and the largest complete slice of the most famous meteorite in the world, the Willamette, a huge specimen housed in the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The sale includes 125 meteorites from the Smithsonian, natural history museums in London, New York and Paris.
If you are handy with your search knowledge, this short story might be on the Washington Post site. I didn't look. The Auction will probably be advertised or mention on 100's of WEB site in the coming days. If you buy anything, let us know.
