I am a fairly new user of White's XLT spectrum ....maybe 10 hours..... Question about the depth reading. My machine (or maybe me) has a difficult time coming close to the real depth of an object.Often it will read 8-10" & th object will only be an inch or so deep.I am using the factory setting for relics to get use to the machine. I live in upper South Carolina & our soil in my area is very mineralized. I bought the machine used.I have read the board a bit & saw that turning the machine on & removing the battery pack would reset the factory settings.Advice?

on my Eagle Spectrum all I did was remove the battery for a minute when the machine was on and it reset it... I bet the XLT works the same.

will do....It may be as much my fault as the machine ,I will make a test garden & play some more.

When the depth is off by that much, what are you uncovering? I believe calibration is based on a dime. A small piece of foil will read deep and be shallow, as a soda can will read shallow and be deep. Also, the test garden idea is good but be aware that a newly planted test garden will be different than real field finds.

DirtAngler,
You have described my experance very well....so it may be that I just need field time & learn my machine better.I am just glad that it is a common occurance & not a problem with the equipment.
Thank you all for your input.
