New video - How to Pick a Gold Pan

Between the rain and work I haven't been able to get out and prospect. So to stay in where its dry, I did this video. Hopefully, to help the beginners pick out there first gold pan. Let me know if you think it will help or hurt.

I am a beginner, and I just wanted to say thanks for this video. I will be subscribing to your YouTube channel. You can tell that you know your stuff just from hearing the way you speak on the subject. I also kind of want to add a metal pan to my collection now! Thanks again for your time and your advice.

Great video and I agree with your comments on what works best. That black Proline Professional pan you wave around through much of the video and call your "workhorse" is my favorite too. I've gone away from green pans in the field as I can't see the -100 gold as well on green as I can on black. For finish panning I use a combination of green and black.

Anyway, good video.

PS to others, his comments about burning off Mercury in a metal pan are NOT safe. Please don't do this (unless your grandfather taught you how I guess!). Use a retort instead.

Great video. I agree with the small bottoms on the Garrett gravity traps being no good. That's why I love my super sluice pan. Huge bottom and being 15" wide it will hold a bunch of material. I've found it is way faster than using a small sluice. Also for any newbs like me don't forget to scuff up your new plastic pan when you buy it.

Thank you. Is there a pan you'd recommend for a five yr. old?

A Keene 10 inch black finish pan is easiest for smaller hands and new prospectors to use at the creek and at home.

Two Thumbs WAY Up Gary! Well done. :notworthy:

Love all your videos! Thank you! Could you elaborate more on the Mercury thing?? How it's used?

I made another post before finding his video and mentioned my son and I watched some videos....yep, he's the same guy! All the videos we watched (like 4 maybe) were outstanding. Know how I could tell he was worth watching panning? He made it look too easy!

Your blog is extremely helpful. I'm taking him to the Phoenix Mine for sure. Thanks for your efforts as they will make the next trip out better for my family.

I am going to do a video on working concentrates with mercury. I ran out of time, won't be able to get to it until this fall.
