Was out digging for 2.5h yesterday.
Unfortunately no silver this time but other nice coins instead.
The square ones are coins from 1788. Unfortunately they are in a poor condition.
The medal/coin is quite nice. People got them for invading France (our 'favorite hobby' ;) ) in 1870/71. The German empire was founded in 1871 in Versailles.

The rest of the coins are dead. Can't see anything on them anymore. It's because of the wet ground, it completely destroys copper coins.

I've been doing some reading on the Franco-Prussian war. Some very interesting history. I'd love to find some relics from those battles. Nice finds and the square coins are new to me!

Neat stuff! Never seen a square coin before. :icon_thumright:

Great historic saves !
From Wiki: The medal for combatants was manufactured from captured bronze cannon barrels. The obverse shows the crowned Royal cypher of William I over the inscription Dem siegreichen Heere (To the victorious army). Inscribed around the edge is Gott war mit uns, Ihm sei die Ehre (God was with us, to Him be the glory). The reverse shows a cross with rays between the four arms. In the center of the cross is a laurel wreath surrounding the dates 1870 and 1871. On the edge of the coin is inscribed AUS EROBERTEM GESCHUETZ (From conquered cannon).

Important war for Germany since it was founded after we won!
Germany didn't really exist before that war (which was the last out of a number of wars).
We've had a lot of kingdoms instead (Bavaria, Prussia, Saxony etc)

We also had a lot of sqare coins! I'll post some pictures later

Good selection of finds. Keep at it, I found lots of great relics & coins in Germany.

Your 'klippe' coin may be this one: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces24088.html

Well done ;)
There are quite many of them here! Usually you find many 18xx coins. Inbetween some from 16xx but they are (depending on where you go) quite rare. Apart from those coins from Sachsen-Hildburghausen. I already found 7 or 8 of them. Unfortunately they usually are in a very bad condition.
