New to the group

Hello everyone:
Thank you for accepting me as a new member. I am new to the group and new to metal detecting/treasure hunting. I live in the Brandon/Jackson Mississippi area.
I would like any help getting started regarding the right equipment and local laws so I don't cause any trouble and recommendations on good places to start, I would love to meet some experience people in the area. Is there any kind of local club around ? any advice appreciated.
