New to Metal Detecting in TX!

Hi all. I just got my first metal detector for Father’s Day this year, and I’m really excited to get started!

I’m in Texas. DFW area specifically, I also work in Midland every other week. I’d love some tips and pointers on where/how to start! Thanks.

All depends on what you're looking for. Relics, modern coins, war artifacts, etc.?
Research is half the battle I've always said. Books, magazines, maps, internet, libraries, historical societies and word of mouth are good starting places.

Good call on getting a machine. My advice is read the instruction manual cover to cover and watch a youtube video or two on your specific machine before going into the field then dig it all until you learn the capabilities of it. In short learn your machine, it talks to you! You will decide what you like digging best then tailor some research/permissions into finding your chosen target. I like relics the best but coinshooting a park is fun too, just have fun with it no pressure.

I’m really fascinated with relics myself. I’m hoping to meet some people willing to give me permission to hunt their property, but I’m not sure how to go about meeting those people quite yet!
