I live in Eden NC, i'm new to metal detecting and looking for tips and tricks. Whats the best way to get people to let you detect on there land? Im not shy but i dont wont to sound like a creeper or something when i show up and ask them. I would love to meet up with some people and go hunting sometime this weekend.

You might consider browsing Sub-Forums: North Carolina for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

I graduated from J M Morehead HS in '67. Still have connections to Eden. But it's been a year since I visited. There's plenty old sites there. Just keep your mind open and keep looking.
For one thing, if you go out 770 from Draper, and then take the left at Gant Road, between the commercial site right on the left, and on the right there's a grown up field. That was a race track in the 50's there in that field. At the state line was Squats on the right which was a bootlegging joint until sometime in the 70's. Once you get past the Sollite Plant on the right, in the fields to the right was a Confederate hospital at a long gone mansion there.

Those are 3 spots worth taking a look at and seeing if you can find out more.

If you'd continued 770 towards Danville, might be the first road on the right that goes over a bridge to Draper. In the 60's that was reputed to be haunted, and we'd take our dates there and park just so's they'd want to get closer to us :)

PM me as you explore the area. I'll be back down there soon, as it has been a year since my last visit.
