Welcome to T-Net from Michigan! Your yard is a great place to learn your detector. You've done well and don't be surprised with the amount of metal you find!

Welcome to tnet! Good start with the coins. Be sure to check out the very active coin roll hunting forum on here too.

Are you wearing headphones and digging the weak signals? Is the backyard one for a house built before 1964? If so, look for the clothesline location and dig the weak signals.

thx and yeah lots of metal found 7 bottle caps and some railroad spikes. lots of old matchbox cars. im hopefully going to get with relatives and go out on a old home site that belonged to a family member.

i dont wear headphones i lost mine. the house was built in 84 but 4 houses down a house was built in the 1900s big wooded areas

i have my detector set on coins. and switch back and forth to all metals. i have went over the back yard 7 times on all modes. next is the woods

Be careful how you dig so you don't damage a nice coin because you will find one very soon since you are most likely detecting yards that haven't been detected before.

Welcome to the forum from another Connecticut detectorist.

Even a pair of cheap headphones ($25-30 on ebay) will help immensely with the weak signals that are missed without headphones.

Keep up the good work! There are many colonial sites in Connecticut, do your research and you will find them!

Welcome. I have a friend who used to sell metal detectors, he wanted to do my lawn to show me how good his machine was. He found a gold wedding ring there.

You never know what's out there, although the Confederate button in my lawn was a shocker.

Matchbox cars are good too!

If you are just getting started I will share something that I wish someone had shared with me--you won't regret investing in a well made pin pointer, such as the several models made by Garrett. When you are down on your knees in the dirt or sand and not quite sure where the target is, it is nice to be able to whip out your pin pointer and zero right in. A pin pointer saves a lot of time and aggravation. I own three of them, including one of the new waterproof models and "wouldn't leave home without it."

Yes - and since their popularity peaked in the 1960's, they can be indicators of silver coins in the area. Matchbox cars are the only toys I saved in new condition in their boxes when the entire set consisted of 50 or 52 models. Well, they were perfect until my younger brothers got into them and played with them in the dirt...

Welcome to the hobby and welcome to TreasureNet! By all means invest in a pinpointer! Great advice califteacher!

Remember, dug out is not a thing, keep hitting that yard, get out the trash. Pull tabs and bottle caps are your enemy, dig em anyway and get them out. I found a big chuck of silver ID bracelet in my back yard after pulling out countless lead roofing nails, pull tabs, etc.

Good start Trevor
Do some research on old parks, camps, fair grounds fishing spots swimming holes you wont be dissapointed. There goes the yard lol
