Welcome to the hobby and forum. The X-Terra 30 is a nice starting detector if you learn it well. I only say starting as many start with a Ford and later move up to a Caddy for the extra bells and whistles.

You can find the field test reports on Minelab's web site along with manuals and tips.

Re: New to MD'ing

Welcome to the forum, Insider. I switched over to Minelabs a few years ago and have had excellent success. I started out in my own yard with just using the preset settings and earphones. When i got my first hits before digging I would change the discriminate settings and all metal setting to see the differences. It the signal stayed strong on full discriminate I usually had a coin or something coinlike. Today I still will sometimes just run on factory sets and full disc for an enjoyable outing. I keep track of each location though and the finds there so I can return later and do a more complete search for nickels, jewelry and deeper items. Call it taking a sample. Be looking for your pictures friend.

Re: New to MD'ing

Welcome aboard,

Glad to have you with us. This is a great place to learn, have fun, and make friends. I have never used a Minelab, but I have heard great things about the X-terra detectors. It should be a great little machine.

Re: New to MD'ing

Good luck, you're going to have a great time. Don't get discouraged if you find anything good at first. You have to stick with it and the finds will come.

Re: New to MD'ing

Welcome to T.N. My friend just got a X-T 30 like yours and is really excited about it. He's a nubie also but I'm sure he's already hooked.
Let me know how you make out with it. You and my buddy can swap info that you learned with them.
Give me a yell.

Re: New to MD'ing

Hey I hunt with an xterra 30. Its been a great machine so far. Takes a awhile to get used to the numbers, and the numbers vary with the soil as well. Good machine. keep me updated.
