Primary Interest:
Beach & Shallow Water Hunting
I've been lurking for about a year and decided it is time to get started here. I'm from Southern California and have been in and out of detecting since 1961. I'm mostly a beach rat. Detecting from Malibu to Santa Barbara. Collecting Al tabs :laughing7:and hunting gold jewelry in sand and shallow water.
This year has been a little slow for me, since I'm retired and lazy.

Hello and welcome.

Dude, Mine sweep the "towel line" (sounds like deja vu, since this is the second time I have used this phrase today).

Zuma, Trancas, Leo Carillo, Big Sycamore, Thornehill Broome on up to Santa Barbara might be cool for the detector.

You said your retired and Lazy, well I have a prescription straight from Dr. Jones for you.

"Jalama Beach"

400 yards of beach front which you can detect but you would look out of place.

Secure your day pack with your lunch, rock pick and a stainless putty knife 2" and 4"
head south from the campground (point Conception lighthouse is about 5 miles south)
You WILL encounter numerous shale piles which contain museum or mantle peice quality fossils
Just cleave wisely.
I found a Crynoid within 10 minutes just to win a bet and that was at the south west corner of the campground
it was on one of those windy days where that was the only place to find relief.

The holy grail of rock hounds and Jalama is petrified whalebone.
There is a sample in the Cafe'
once you see it, you will remember it in the field.

It was a best kept secret until surfer magazine featured it in the early eighties.
I don't feel so bad giving up one of my spots many years later

enjoy!
