I am so happy I found this forum. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go in NC? I'm located between Charlotte and Hickory. Plan on taking a trip to Vein Mountain tomorrow. I've practiced with my new detector (Pioneer 505) and I'm still getting use to it.
I do know there are places here in NC where gold has been found. That's primarily what I'm after. I have two attachments for my detector and will be using the 4" coil which is specifically for gold. I know it takes time to find anything. But even if I find just flakes, I can at least justify my purchase ($300) to my spouse without having to sleep on the couch!

Any help on where to go would be appreciated. I live in Lincoln Co. and I do plan on going to the school where the Battle of Ramseur's Mill was fought (use to be owned by my family). I'm hoping to find at least something there to add to my family collection. I also know there use to be gold in Lincoln Co. Just not sure where. But I"m willing to travel if there are some good opportunites.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

I know all about the Ramseur's Mill area. That's my family. I plan on going up there on a weekend when school isn't in session. The wooded area goes waaaaaay back. I'll check out the other places you mentioned also. I know there is a lot of history in Lincoln Co. and looking forward to getting around and seeing what I can find.
I do appreciate all the help that's been given. It's been awhile since I've been home. So the places mentioned sound familiar. I just need to pull the whereabouts out of my brain!
