Found a small lot tucked away near a busy intersection today. Looking at old plat maps, it looks like there was a farm house there since the early 1900's. Only spent an hour or so there but found a number of interesting things.

First up was the Ivory soap token. Neat eight sided token and I wonder what time frame it comes from as it's giving away a free bar of soap (medium) wiith the purchase of a box of Ivory soap flakes (large). It's a little toasted but a really neat find (I really like finding tokens, especially local tokens). A more readable version can be found at:
GOOD FOR / 1 CAKE / IVORY SOAP / (MEDIUM SIZE) / FREE WITH THE / PURCHASE OF / 1 PKG. / IVORY FLAKES / (LARGE SIZE) (TC-370966) Cincinnati, Ohio (Hamilton County), U.S.A.

Then I found a small stamped buckle with a horse image. Stamped but kind of neat. I really thought the find of the day was the token, until I picked up the Sustaining Lincoln Highway Member metal thingy. At first I thought it was just a thick piece of rectangular metal, but then flipped it over and saw the red/white/blue colors (colours for our northern friends). I'm not sure but the "paint" seems really thick like it's enameled on. I need to do some research on it, but it's a pretty interesting find.

Coin wise, pulled a 1960's clad dime, four wheat pennies (including a 1920), and a South African coin from 1952. What the heck is that thing doing lost in a tiny grass field next to an intersection in a small Iowa town......

As always, thanks for making the time to read my post.

Congrats on digging those cool finds. Love the token. I am in Ohio and also found a coin from S Africa this past July circa 1953.

Neat article Mackaydon. Thanks for sharing. I also found this one. Looks like they gave the emblem to those who donated $5 per year to support the construction of the Lincoln Highway. According to the writeup these were given out in 1915/1916, quite a bit of money for the day.

I love the history you discover and rediscover.

BEEN UP AND DOWN THE OLD LINCOLN HIGHWAY MANY TIMES. BUT THE TOKEN IS A NEEEET FIND .

Anybody have an idea on the approximate year the token would be from? I can't tell from the token catalog. Be a nice addition to that handy online tool.
