Hope you all are getting through winter ok. I gained a new permission. A field I'd wanted to hunt for several years. Found the owner and politely asked. Got the ok. Game on. The first hunt I used the 8.5" by 11" coil and got an 1864 Two Cent Piece, two indian's, two 1920 wheat's, an initial token, two small crotal bells. Some kind of decorative brass item that says Mackinac Island on top. At the bottom it reads Fort Mackinac, August 23d, 1905. No idea. I tried to look it up and thought the date would help but I'm still clueless. Also some kind of button looking item with what looks to be an oriental woman on the front. No idea. There were a lot of site finds. A clay marble, broken pipe, porcelain arm, miniature porcelain pitchers. Also saw what looked like a modern plastic button. I almost tossed it but remembered reading about hard rubber buttons being found on a civil war site. It's got a good year back mark. Google says it's a fish eye sew through.Goodyear Hard Rubber Buttons Fisheye Goodyears P T 1851 | eBay I went back the next day with my 5" by 8" coil to pick throu the iron. I got a barber dime :hello2: that was hiding and another indian. Also another small crotal bell. I'm hoping I can pull some more stuff out in the spring. Mackinac is a historical tourist trap island in michigan to the right of the bridge. Seems a little early for a souvenir though. Possibly from a honeymoon trip from back in the way back.

That's some good stuff especially this time of year in Indiana!!! Congratz...

You got a great spot
Northern Michigan is where you will be heading if you want to get to Mackinac Island. There is a National Park that takes up 3/4 of the island. Fort Mackinac still stands and began guarding the Straits of Mackinac in 1792. The Grand Hotel was built in 1887 and is a very popular tourist spot. Almost all employees working on the island are dressed in period costume.
The Harley Davidson Motor Company sponsored a "Great Lakes Tour" over 2 years. (2004 - 05). In the Final Chapter of that tour we visited the Island by Ferry as there are no motor vehicles allowed on the island. We also rode across the Mackinac Bridge and up to Whitefish Point where you will find "The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum"
You definitely have a nice little souvenir. What makes it special is the date. You don't see dates on tourist souvenirs anymore.
Congrats on your finds

That must have taken some time to dig up all those fine items, but it certainly paid dividends.

Nice finds! Two cent coins don't turn up that often. Looks like you're on a great site!

Those are some really cool finds. Thanks for posting

Thanks, actually wasn't that bad. A light frozen shell on top that easily crumbled away leaving loose soil underneath. Didn't see any reales though. Just kidding! Carhartt bib overalls were a plus though!

"Back in the way back" I like that one! I'm gonna remember that phrase and add it to my list of favorite sayings. Serious! I never thought of a honeymoon memento, good call.

Really nice hunt.
Can't help you on the mystery item but it looks pretty old to me whatever it is.

Super hunt with all the interesting relics.

Can I ask if you could clean this escutcheon to see if it is casted, rather than stamped, and if it has any hand stamped decorations? It looks very old, and I am curious about it :)

Oh man I like that site. Stick with it and don't try to separate the cut nails from good sounds there. Just dig:notworthy:

Great finds! I like the heart heel plate too! [emoji106]

Congratualtions on the very productive hunt! :occasion14:
