I went back to a new site for a second time and ventured further in the woods, through some thick brush up a rocky ledge hit and found a huge patch of flat woodlands. I had about 15 minutes before dark and found a Barber dime, two musket balls IH and two wheets. I can't wait to go back. Hoping to find a colonial silver. :tongue3: 012.JPG015.JPG016.JPG017.JPG013.JPG014.JPG
Any ideas what the container artifact is or would haev been used for?

Great haul, congrats. Your artifact looks nearly identical to a bi-folding 1/16th size tintype photo frame, to be carried in your pocket. I have one with a photo of an ancestor and it looks nearly identical to yours. Keep hitting that field, happy hunting. Sub

Thanks all.
I will have to look up photo cases. Curious to know the date range,

Mine is 1860's, they were popular during the civil war, soldiers carried them. Have you opened it?

It looks like the kind of folding frame they used to use for daguerrotypes. If you remember the scene in Gone with the Wind when Rhett caught Scarlett looking at the picture of Ashely Wilkes... He stepped on it. It looks like one of those.
