I have been wanting to detect a certain site for several years but have been hesitant on asking permission since the site is on private property and I was almost 100% sure they would decline. I can't give out too many details on the site, however it is a Prime site and has been over looked by detectorist for many years. It is not an old location but has a HUGE potential for lots of clad change, rings and other jewelry. The best part is the site is Heavily used almost year round and the ground is replenished with finds almost daily. I stopped and talked to the owner and asked if the site had ever been checked with a metal detector. She said no, she has owned the location for 10 years and no one has ever checked it. I explained to her my hobby and how I would like to detect her property, I could tell almost immediately she was going to say no. Sure enough, she declined me permission. Having a gut feeling this would happen I came prepared with a back up plan. I told her I had a proposition for her.... I offered that if she let me detect the property Twice a month, Every Month I would get to keep ALL the coins I find and small jewelry items. However in return for her letting me detect there I would split the profits 50/50 of any valuable rings and jewelry that I find. I could begin to see a light in her eyes as she thought about it. After a brief moment she shook my hand and said deal, detect away! I was stoked at this point, but to make this even sweeter she not only granted me permission to detect, but Sole Hunting Permission. She explained to me that if anyone else asked to detect she was decline them permission and I had the place all to my self Wow!
Anyways on to my finds....after I got permission I did a short hunt today, about 3 hours long and found 125 coins=$10.20 in clad, 1 junk earring, and a cool medal or pendant of some kind which appears to be silver. To my surprise there was very little trash, I probably dug less than ten pieces of trash and that was running my machine in all metal with iron discriminated out. I'm pretty excited about the site and I am fairly confident it will yield several nice rings in the near future.
