VERY COOL! I love those old buggy maker's plates! GREAT FIND!

The company was located at the north east corner of 8th and Evans st in Cincinnati. This is almost all of the info I can find. 1898 Cincinnati business directory under carriage manufacturers. The buggy made it 15 miles west of Lexington ky (105 mi) at least before losing this tag. Would love to find a pic of the buggy it came from, or more info about the company. I love thinking of this buggy being steamed down the Ohio to maysville ky.

Wouldn't a pic be a neat addition!!? I wonder if a local museum in Cincinnati might be able to help, or at least point you in the right direction.

It's a great find! Hope you can find out some more info regarding the manufacturer and/or the model of buggy that it came from. I agree, much more significant than most of the coin finds here!

BTW, what exactly is a buggy anyway? A stagecoach? A carriage?

That is an interesting find. I like it.

I have a buggy tag myself. Found it in the lawn of a house where I rented an apartment for 15 years. Found a lot of coins there. Two houses over was a buggy maker. The house was actually part of the buggy shop and the elderly guy that lived there was a descendant. He actually worked in the shop as a kid. Told me one day how he and his brothers took a number of buggies of all types and busted them up and burned them. That was when the automobiles had taken over and there was no market. The shop started making frames for automobiles. The house I was in was owned by the family. Yes I searched around the lawn of the "shop" but found nothing.

I mounted the tag on a Buggy cutout and display it along with a photo of the wagon shop. I will post a pic later.

Awesome find

Now thats a killer find for sure.....I'd rather find something of that nature than i had a silver coin.........Seems like theres more history attached to it.......................................HH

Nice find! Don't see them being found too often anymore (especially in good cond.).

HH

Not sure whether the 2 are related but there was also a Monarch carriage works in that area. You may be able to link the 2 and glean a bit more information.
