I was looking at old topo's the other day and noticed that a barren entrance to an Army Corps of Engineers water management site used to be a settlement. I went to the local library and discovered the settlement was established in 1774 and vacated in 1930 so the Corps of Engineers could create a dam and flood water management system.
The Topo's indicated many dwellings and the Library research indicated that 34 homes and some businesses were once located in the .25mi area.
I hit it this morning for the first time for 1.5 hours and came across some decent finds.
The IH is 1908 and the button has a backmark of "Imperial London".
The site is not littered with modern day trash at all but does have it's fair share of iron.
I've got a good feeling about this site and wonder if it has been detected before.
I'll keep you posted.
Good luck all.
