On Saturday I received permission to hunt a stretch of land that I’ve been eyeing for a couple years now. It’s a known early colonial site and is currently pasture and hay fields. I finally tracked down the farmer and he was more than happy to allow me to detect…as long as I split any finds worth in excess of 1 million dollars…no problem, I assured him!
I checked my maps and noted where the village site was roughly located and started my search. It was blazing hot and I only had about 90 minutes to detect so I started with the most likely areas. It’s a big piece of land so there will be a lot of aimless wandering I am sure. After about an hour with nothing to show except a couple ox shoes I started hunting a particularly nice hill top and got my first decent signal. The conditions here are very sandy so I’m confident that coppers will come out decent, and that is what I was hoping for with this signal. Wasn’t a copper but it was a very good sign that I was in the right area…a nice shoe buckle! By this time it was time to go but I now know where to start when I get back there…which will be tomorrow night! On the way out I hit the other targets pictured but I really have no idea what they are or if they are the same period as the shoe buckle. I’ll post them in the What is It forum. Thanks for looking and for your comments!
