I am not even sure if this is a real coin or maybe a token but figured one of you would know. This measures 28mm and very thin. It appears that it went through a fire, I can't see anything on the back. Thanks for any information you can give me.

Nice Find. I'm guessing French. Ip or Don should post on this one. Pretty Kool. Hogge

Looks like an old Raleigh cigar token - Cool find ;D

It looks like that is who it is, but I can't find anything on google to show if it is a token or how old :help:.

I thought Rasputin was on the right track and I found this listing:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-SIR-WALTER-RALEGH-SILVER-PRIZE-MEDALS-1928-31-V-SCARC_W0QQitemZ360166260401QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Coins_Medals_RL?hash=item53db94feb1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A8|66%3A2|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A7|294%3A50

but it doesn't look exact to me. I didn't think the squiggly collar or the brim of the hat matched up. Do you see any sign of the year on the obverse or wreathing on the back like those in the listing? Thought you could tell better with it in hand. Checked a couple foreign coin books and didn't see anything. Keep asking. It looks real interesting to me.

nice find!

resembles the portrait of Sir Frances Drake (Certainly that style/period)

Thanks for pitching in everyone, this one is tough! As I googled Sir Francis Drake, I found a lot of "Sirs" that bear a resemblance. I wish I had more to go on but the coin was in rough shape. Hopefully someone will see this and have the answers eventually.

That token is a little known stamping for the "Pimp Daddy Gomez" Co. they sold condoms in the early 1800's...........Way cool finds!

How were cigar tokens used?

Just take it to the local store (who ever issued it or made them) and redeem it for a cigar. I have found one. They have the name of the company they are trying to sell (promote) The one I found had a company in Cincinatti, Ohio on it. On the back it said, "good for one gold letter cigar" on it

ALL HAIL SLIPPERYJACK!

(Even if he moved to Cheeseland, he is still a Mighty Michigander at heart!)

Anyone know where we can have a bronze statue made? I'm thinking on the lawn of that big white building in Lansing.

Have a great 4th!
