A buddy just purchased a new se pro. I am using an EX ll with the pro coil. We spent about 3 hrs together with these machines. I was finding targets clad dimes and pennies for the most part, they where checking my targets with the se, it seemed unable to lock on and stabilize on, even 2 or 3 inch finds. We tried it in quick start, smart and digital, with the sensitivity from 10 to 25, tried discriminating out all but coins and jewlery, same results in all modes. ground balance,(noise cancel), had no effect. re-set the machine to factory settings several times, no help. In smart mode the cursor is all over the screen on targets the ex had located locked on and identified, same situation in digital, could not make up its mind what value to put on anything. Dissapointing situation..Tried the spot after the target was dug both machines silent, so it was not trying to settle on more than one on top of each other..I guess my question is has anyone had this problem, and have we missed some little detail that would cure this. any input appreciated.. Thanks, don

How close were your detectors while you were checking the targets? Just wondering if any interference was being picked up between detectors. My buddy and I have that problem. he uses a Whites spectra and me a DFX. he puts a lot of interference off to me.

This was my first thought that the detectors were interfering with each other. Were the batteries fresh and installed correctly, pins ok on the conectors, any cell phones turned on, etc. Have you tried another coil? Lots of things to check before you wrap it around a tree.

Batteries new fully charged, no cell phone, I turned mine off several times, thinking cross talking, did not make a differance..I thought the next move would be to try my coil on the se, did not do that today. I feel somewhat responsible they are coming off a white after going with the ex.. Thanks , don

Don, your not responsible. Perhaps UPS damaged the detector in transit. UPS doesn't handle things as carefully as we'd like. One reason I suggest always buying from a local dealer if you can so you can carry it home yourself. Good luck.........

You definitely should have tried switching coils, tried alks because a charger pack can be bad, or go bad. Also made sure all connections were tight and tried the factory reset each time you tried to solve the problem. Did you try lowering the sense just to see? If the detector electronics locked it self up, even if the problem is corrected it still might not act right without the restart.

All that being said it kinda sounds like something more serious. The problems I described usually don't stop a detector from locking on the target... usually it's just a lot of added noise. You should still test one more time before sending it away. There's probably a good number of explorers that get sent back when the problem is a simple fix.

not sure of an answer as several things can cause this.

Interference comes from lots of different items

My pinpointer can make mine (SE) squirrelly if I get them too close
when the pin pointer is on.

how does it do by itself? away from wires, other machines, etc?

I would be discussing it with where I bought it and most likely send it back to them
if I wasn't hitting a coin at 2 inches.

won't be the first time a new machine has had a problem or a bad coil

I have seen Kellyco if he bought it from them send a new machine right away
out and just ask the other one be returned.

Well the others have brought up most things.
However if the area is trashy it can make the readings jump, so yes try another coil by all means.

Believe it or not my most confusing problem ever was having a can of bug spray in my front pocket and the detector was seeing it when I was trying to pp a target. Took me about 20 minutes of head scratching to figure it out.

Those darn cans are a drag! ;D

My most confusing problem ever was probably to high sensitivity. :D
Took me 10 min before I rememberd the noise cancel. :D
That was one of the first outings.
