We needed this as we are bleeding our others dry.
Land-Mag strikes again with another permission that just happened to work out.:hello2: Yesterday he was patrolling on one of our farmers land when he bumped into the neighbour. Actually an old friend. When he asked what he was doing (hunting down Roman sites), he offered up his land straight away. Last night he did some research & came up with a couple of targets.
Today we started by looking at the most promising one which was cut in half by 2 fields. All the crops were growing so all I could try was 3 rows along the hedge row, where I got 4 Roman Coins in less than 20 minutes! Tried the next field in the tractor tyres & got another 4!
Site CONFIRMED.
With the field walking & pottery spread, it's a BIG Site, so I can't wait for the harvest!:thumbsup:
Tried a nearby failed oil-seed rape area for an hour but got nothing, so 2.5 hrs (without Cru'dad) produced;

7 Roman Bronze Coins
1 Roman Debased Silver, probably Postumus.
18th C Silver Cuff-Link.

Great results, congratulations! Discovering a future hunting ground is a great feeling. You have a gift with the Roman sites, that's for sure.

Cheers, I think this is no.47!

Cool! More ancient relics for us to look at! Hope it works out!

Great news for you Cru. Did you have any luck between the edge of the field and the hedgerow itself? Our hedgerows here in Mid U.S.A. are literately a row of hedge trees (usually Osage Orange) with 4 or 5 barbed wire strands. The trees are sometimes very large, planted in the 1930's or later. Farmers sometimes take a single blade to plow a line deep 30-50 feet away from the trees to kill the roots that are robbing moisture. Cow's find shade under them and they are used for windbreaks as much as anything. As the cows do, workers find use for the shade when they take a break. Are your hedgerows like those in Normandy in France? And would present day hedgerows be newer than Roman times? Always enjoy your posts and think it would be a good time to find your first few gold coins of the year. Good luck to you & Cru Dad.

Great results for a short hunt and congrats on the new land! We started with a new farm today also, but with less luck. Hope you come up with some goodies later this year!

No better feeling than confirming a new and productive site!

That's wonderful Cru .. It's already rewarding you handsomely for your efforts! Well done and Good luck!

Great solid octagonal cufflink. Glad to see you’re off and going once again on a new Roman site mate

Hedgerows vary a lot here. This one was just a small ditch & a low narrow hedge. The gap I did was the margin. It must have been a new boundary because it cut the Site in half. But some ditches have been continuously cut since the Roman times.

Excellent finds nice cuff link Thanks for sharing CRU

More beautiful finds! Keep'em coming sir!!!!:occasion14:
