I walked a new road yesterday that was being cut in near I-10. A grader had pushed a lot of clay and mud into the ditches, and a friend had called and said he had found a number of flint chips. It is a muddy mess, so it's very hard to see anything. I found a nice point with a broken stem, and nearby I saw what looked like an old window sash weight. It turned out to be a clunker of a celt or axe, 10" long. I've never found one this big, looks to be made out of rough greenstone. Feels like it weighs two or three pounds, and it's been used. The celt isn't exactly in situ, I rinsed it with a water bottle and put it back down approximately where it was found to take the picture. Had no idea it was an artifact!

I didn't have time to be surprised because it never occurred to me that it was anything other than a modern item. I wish I would've recognized it for what it was while it was still in the ground. I couldn't find anything there today, not even flakes. The road will be paved in a week or so and it will be tough to find anything after that.

No telling what might turn up there if you can just get a good, beating rain.

Be careful with giving out your coordinates. You might have some Central Florida people sneaking up toward ya to investigate lol jk
