Found these today in loose river sand. The arge one was about 1 ft deep and rang out loud as a silver + hit. The small one was a surface find with the same tone.

Red line in one photos is to show the definition of where the sandstone is imbedded in it !

Please help , when scratched the metal becomes silver , but doesnt peel like lead. When struck against one another they have that definite "silver ring" to them .

SOLVED * SOLVED * SOLVED !!!!

Thanks in advance

Does a metal detector react to it? Is it conductive? If yes, try the "what's it" forum. :)
First thought is melted aluminium.

First thought is melted aluminium.

It was found with a Fisher F2 so yes to the MD readction. Non magnetic for sure. As far as melted aluminum , the piece weighs a little over a 8 oz , so it doesnt really fit that. Especially when you look at the embedded sandstone layer that it has. Taking it to a local geologist/naturalist today , so we will see what they allow.

Looked like something from welding to me. Maybe someone was welding on their boat and it fell over the side.

We figured it out !!! This is part of a sand dredge that burned to the water line while beached. I was actually able to locate a person that witnessed the fire , and from his take this is more than likely from the area that was beached , near the fuel tank. This explains why there is an encrusted coarse sand layer with an iron oxide layer behind it. A local geologist was the witness ,who was going through the dredged material when the vessel caught fire. He thinks what I have is an amalgum of steel and aluminum.

At least the mystery is solved.
