Relic Hunting
I was researching some of my colonial sites and I came across a new map that showed sites from 1740-1810 around some areas that I have good relationships with all the farmers and landowners. I called one of the Mid-Atlantic Relic & Coin Hunters (Wild Bill) and told him that I found some new sites to investigate. So, we decided on a plan of recon and headed out to investigate. Sometimes it is hard to stay focused on "investigative hunting" when you know that there are quality relics right down the road that you could go to and hunt all day. We stuck to the plan and it started out very slow and there was a lot of farming activity going on on most of the new sites. We will have to go back and look around on one of them since we had to leave within 30 minutes so they could plant wheat.

The two silver coins were found in a thicket of green briers and we paid dearly for those nice relics. They were found thirty steps from each other within five minutes. Bill's is in better shape and was "holed" he ended up getting a date later of 1727 when he got home as it was getting dark in the woods. My coin is hammered pretty bad, but it is still spanish silver :icon_thumleft: The picture with both coins were taken right after Bill pulled his. The three pictures of the spanish are under magnification to see it better. The picture with all the relics is from my last two hunts.

The Draped Bust was a nice surprise and ended up in very good shape! Bill pulled a nice script LA button (War of 1812 Light Artillery Button) from the same site has the 1801 Draped Bust LC. We managed a few flat buttons, some brass items, IH Pennies, Wheat Backs, 1943 SIlver Washington Quarter, & some odds and ends. I found most of my relics with me Etrac and the spanish coin with my T2SE. Thanks for viewing and enjoy the pictures. Happy Thanksgiving to all and enjoy the blessing of family and friends!!!

Virginia Style!

Congrats on some nice finds and getting access to some early sites! I am sure you will find lots more when you are able to get back on the properties.

What quality finds....Virginia style indeed!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Way to go on the research. I put lots of time into my local history and putting myself in the right places. It feels great when it pays off. Looks like you're doing a great job with that. Nice finds and nice thanksgiving message. Same to you and your family and friends

Very Nice !!! Congrats on your Spainish silver and other finds !!! I can't imagine hunting an area with that kind of history and if I found a coin like that I would probably do a crazy happy dance !!!

You got some fine recoveries there, Wes. You got a taste of what you can expect when you have full access to the sites. I'd be chomping at the bit to spend a day there.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Awesome hunt Wes, Congrats on the finds and the research coming true, that always makes the finds more rewarding :icon_thumleft:

You can't go wrong with early silvers and coppers. Lots of other nice finds as well. Good job on the research.

Congrats to you and Bill on a nice hunt! Looks like you both did well. Spanish silvers, nice buttons and a copper! Way to go brother!

Tearing it up as usual...... congrats on a truly great haul.:icon_thumleft:

Really nice finds, the research paid off! Happy Hunting.

Great work, Wes. I love the large cent- would have made my month to find that beauty. HH!

Success because of research , gotta like those finds especially the DB . The two half reals are exciting but the 1801 largie is the star of the show ....nice hunt

Congrats on some awesome finds! Can't wait to see what else you pull out of there when you get back on it. HH!
