This was our last day on the Spring Barley, as it's getting pretty high. We will return to the Game Strip on this field later but for the foreseeable future we are done gridding. We had a slightly shorter day at 4.5 hours because it was tough digging the harder clay for deep items & because we finished on a tyre track that we can return to if we decide to do more in the future. Although it's been a more than great 'filler', it's not a field that would come to the top of the list very often, so it maybe some years before we return.

1 Scrappy
Crotal Bell
Watch Winder
Spec Buckle
Charles II Shilling - Only our 3rd and all of them nearly as slick! (A rare find for us)
Edward III Durham Mint Penny - Not good condition but a scarce find (not had this one)

what is the story on all the buttons you find? Are they of a similar age, lost in a similar way?

Quite often they are dumped on the fields with old uniforms but not these mostly Georgian ones. I think its activity associated with farming the land or the nearby main road, or both.
