New Poster, Old MD'er

Hi,
I have been MDing off and on (mostly off) for the last 30 years or so, and have gotten back into the hobby, when my brother started looking into getting into it. He bought a used PI detector to go beach detecting.

I have lurked on this forum and others getting "new" information about detectors, since my old detectors, a 1990 White's Coinmaster Classic III and a White's 3900DX were made, and also reading some of the finds, still being made. Cleaning off my old detectors and going out into the yard to re-familiarize my self with them.
Jan 1st my brother and I went to Galveston and detected. 58 cents and some trash was cleaned off the beach and we had a great time.

The week after that I met with a new friend ,that I met through another forum and we went detecting for a while. Not much was found, except a good start with a new friend.

On Jan 10th, I just got my new White's M6 and 6 inch coil, and also off of ebay got a good deal on a used White's IDX with the 8 inch and 6 inch coils for it. ;D

Taking my new M6 into my "hunted out" yard. Each detector I have had I tried out on my yard, I guessed there was only trash left.
Only seeing where the Target meter was reading on the trash and getting a feel for my new detector.
I found a silver dime, a silver quarter, and a wheatback penny.....all within 10 minutes off testing my M6. 8)

I thought my yard was hunted out. Can't wait until I can really get hunting to see what else is left in my yard.

Re: New Poster, Old MD'er

Hi Dimeman! It's amazing that using another unit can yield more after you've hunted it out with another..I'd take that M6 and check more of the neighborhood with it..sounds like you live in an area full of obsolete coins.

Well considering that my old detector is 16 years old and many electronic advances have been made since then, I know I just didn't miss those coins all these years. ;)

I may have to get permission from all the houses in my neighborhood , since most are all from the late 1950's. ;D

Here is a picture of one of my very first finds metal detecting. It was found in my front yard with an old Bounty Hunter detector, in the late 1970's.

It was off a belt from a Superman costume, from the old TV show starring George Reeves.

Gid day Dimeman, nice to hear you've rejoined the detecting force! ;D Ain't it great when you can hunt with someone (especially family) who's as excited as you about lookin' for whatever? ;) It's super to see you in here too! THE best TH'ing website on the net, I dare say! ;D Welcome aboard and I'm lookin' to see more about your future hunts in here dude.

Getting to know each of your machines is like another whole new adventure again, even in places you've scoped pretty good before. 8)

The bonus of hunting with a newly made friend from a forum is another and perhaps one of the finds one can find. I'm sure you'll find a few in here buddy.

Thanx for the nice post too, by the way...
