I finally got all the pieces that I acquired at the AACA show off of the board they glued to and got all the glue and velcro pads off of them. It wasn't easy and I was afraid I was going to break something getting the pads off, but I let them soak in water for a while and they came off fairly easily. I put everything into a nice wooden tray so they have found their new permanent home. I also took a few new pictures and some close ups of a few items. Hope you enjoy them.

I'd like to hear some opinions on the piece in pictures 9 and 10. They way it was setting on the board I thought it was just another Bone Awl, but after getting it off the board and getting the velcro off I noticed the 8, and possibly 9, tally marks on the back side so I''m wondering if this was actually a Musical Rasp. If you take another piece of bone and rub it across the tally marks it makes a very rythmic sound. What do you all think?

Thanks for looking.

Nice really like the drilled discs and teeth...and the flint...

You're probably right on about the rasp, there's not many in this world who have handled and found more Ft. Ancient artifacts than you Steve. That group looks alot better in your frame and not glued to a board. I was eyeballing that group pretty hard I gotta say. One of these days I'm going to get serious about my bone collection and add a few frames.

Thanks Ryan. I appreciate the comments. I felt really lucky to get that board of artifacts. Jon had said that someone else was interested in them so it's lucky I moved on them when I did. Did you see on my original post where I had contacted the original finder? He lives in Ft Myers, Florida now and he remembered that board very well. He said there should be a couple more just like it floating around somewhere so if you ever see them and you're not interested in them let me know and I might try to acquire them as well.

They look better. Nice collection. Glad you took them off that board.

Molly.

I'm in the process of removing all the foam from my trays, but I'm focusing on the older trays as of now. This one will eventually be fixed as well, but since I just did it a few weeks ago it will be fine for a while. By the time I'm done there will be no Bone or Shell items with a foam backing.

Thanks

You can get archival grade backing that will preserve them better in your frames. Granted, not all of the stuff looks as good in displays (like cellophane) but it will give you safe storage.

Thanks Matt. I bought some red felt like material from WalMart that works fairly well. Some of the smaller pieces you have put a small dot of Elmer's Glue on them to hold them in place, but it will come right off by soaking them in water so I don't worry about that.

They look good now that they are free. I have to agree that you have the best Fort Ancient collection I have ever seen. I would give anything to collect the bone tools but most bone here is smashed to oblivion and the good pieces that happen to wash out are quickly swept away. I am thinking I have recovered maybe 3 or 4 bone items at most.

Looks great Steve. Sorry that I missed your call today. I really love that big bead! Remember the awl that I found that had the tally marks on it? That could be a rasp. I will get over soon.

I'll agree you have a lot of Ft. Ancient material. Over my way there are Ft. Ancient sites, and I have a few Ft. A points but I seldom get on a site like you producing so much bone. All kidding aside I admire your collection and your dedication to your interests. I think you should post something here if you haven't before and thats is your artwork with that native pipestone I enjoyed seeing those photos and I'm sure some people on tnet might enjoy them as well. BTW Did you have any actual artifacts of that material I don't remember if you did or not. Thanks Steve. No I don't have multiple personality disorder case you were wondering

Thanks Ohioan. I appreciate the kind words on my artifacts. I did post my carvings on here once a while back, but since they weren't actual Indian artifacts they moved them to another forum and they didn't much response there.
