The first photo is of my house, the 2nd photo is of my back yard, only 2 of the kids is mine, the others are neighbors, the kids like to gather in my yard, the other photos is something I found today out there today, it is hard to see but on the top of the thing is a building that looks kind of like a big castle with those triangle flags on poles all over the top and on top is says "mines and mining building" on the inside of the cover is a picture of a log cabin in the woods with a pond nearby.

Although I can't see the details clearly enough to be sure, based on your description I believe that this may be a souvenir metal case (stamp case, hairpin case, etc.) with an embossed scene depicting the Mines & Mining Building at the World's Columbian Exposition (Chicago World's Fair) held in 1893.

Looks to me like a mail door. Usually inserted into a door, it would be lifted up, and the mail dropped into your home.
Anyway, that's my guess.

ok, this is wierd, I was looking at the backside of the cover thing and realized it comes apart, the first photo of how is usualy is, the others show it apart, there was a small extender hinge thingy on both sides, they fell off and I can't figure out how they went on, I guess so you could extend the 2 halves. What kind of thing could have been extended like that?

Great finds boojagirl.
I was going to ask what the "body" of the lidded thing was made of, thinking glass/wood, but being able to separate the frame like that, to me points to a fabric. Could it be off something like a 'hand bag' ?
Cheers, Mike

A rainy day over here so did a little more digging on the Mine, Mining Building. I'm sure as usual PBK has it right. It depics the Mine, mining, & metalurgy building that was at the 1893 Chicago expo. Found another angle picture of the site there. It is a very old and unique souvenir. I dont know what exactly, maybe a coin purse, but definatly put it in your keeper finds. Jim over in Montana probably would like to know that the 9 foot tall solid silver statue of lady Justice thats now at the capitol in Helena was displayed in the building your find depics. Like I said it's a rainy day, Keep that good stuff coming Boojagirl.
