I was able to get permission today to detect the property of a closed school that is now being used for something different. I know the current site owner, so this is someplace I can go to for a long time, and he’s not allowing anyone else to detect there. Sweeeeeet!
The site was developed in the 50’s, so I’m not expecting this to give up much silver coinage. But it does have the potential to be a clad coin shooter's paradise, along with all the other stuff that kids lose. The amount of high tones I passed over are mind boggling, so there’s no telling what’s there.
I did a short survey hunt of a couple hours today, and found my first Boy Scout neckerchief slide (current style since the 60’s), my first Kennedy Bicentenial half dollar, and my first Chevrolet owner's return postage guaranteed key fob. I had to get home to go to a meeting, so I spent a few minutes just passing the 6” coil over the area...the number of targets was stunning! None of the finds are amazing, but they’re amazing to me.
I’m taking the one guy I trust to maintain confidentiality of the site with me on Thursday. He took me under his wing when I started this hobby last year, and got me on properties that are his exclusive permissions. I’m finally able to return the favor, and I’m "well chuffed" to do so. (Digger Dawn would be pleased.
