Nice!!! Congrats!!! It’s funny they used the swastika on tokens like that. I found a Boy Scout Token that had it on it too. Cool token!!!

Great finds!
I grew up in Springfield.
Johnson's Bookstore was the best!
Ground floor was all office supplies and books and such..
But downstairs, a HUGE assortment of GOOD toys and science type stuff.
They had EVERY matchbox car and truck.
Chemistry sets, microscopes, telescopes and one of those miniature working steam engines.
I always wanted that steam engine but it was ridiculously expensive at the time.
(Early to mid 60's).
Thanks for the fond memories!

No problem!!!

swastikas were ancient religious icons way back to Egyptian times It is used as a symbol of divinity and spirituality
in many ancient cultures - later on it was adopted as a good luck symbol - which i believe the reason for it being
on your token - many large "good luck" tokens were made in the early 1900s with one on it usually along with other
symbols of luck such as 4 leaf clovers, elephants, horseshoes etc.

those large tokens are very collectible - they were very popular in the early 1900s - as a kid I had found like a dozen different ones
they were a popular form of advertising - they were like a cracker jack prize for adults - a good luck coin! :hello2:
some like yours were like a coupon for future purchases to get customers to come back
others were just plain advertisements - coin to carry with you and flip - maybe give to your kids to play with or collect
been a long time since i found one - recently had driven by some places i hit when i was a kid and told my GF that i had
found some of those here and there around town
I actually was one of the first guys ( was a teenager) to hit the dike at the BIG E fair grounds i the mid 70s and got 5 or 6 there

Oh yea... I sold them all in the early 80s for gas money :BangHead:
wish I had them still - they look nice in a finds display - I think I may have gotten 50 cents for some
a $1 for others - have not checked but worth lot more than that Im guessing

Congrats on the permission and finds. Lots of history here.
Dr. Suess, Indian motorcycles, Springfield rifles, etc. About halfway between Boston and New York worked as a meeting place in colonial times.

Wish I had metal detected back when I lived across from the Hampden area.
Lots of great old properties and I even stumbled across three old stone cellar holes while hiking with the kids back in '95!!

Nice digs Corey, gotta love those tokens!!

I've found 2 of those Santa tokens,Forest Park Baseball diamonds WERE a hot spot till someone left trash and unfilled holes, now NO METAL DETECTING,like I say,WAS a hot spot..16 Gold and lost count of Silver jewelry clad GALORE!

Nice find!

GOD Bless

Chris

I've found a "lucky" coin like that, exact same "lucky" side but with an ad for a department store in Atlanta on the other side. When I found it I was like.. WTF, this is a late 1800's house... why is there nazi stuff here?

I used to work in a very old courthouse, originally heated by fireplaces (very neat). Many years ago (don’t know when exactly) a HUGE boiler was installed in the basement. If I recall correctly, it was manufactured in the mid-west. It had a large swastika emblem on the brass plate which identified the maker - that is it did, until one of the judges made maintenance file it off. Never understood that, but then no one asked for (or cared about) my opinion.

Very nice hunt, congrats! :occasion14:

Nice Finds!

Used to work for Amtrak... On a historical note... There in Springfield under I-91 near the casino is an Amtrak switch tower. Next to the tower is one of the few remaining level crossings where two sets of tracks cross in a + configuration... Just like the old Lionel train sets.
