Received new permission on friday and was chomping at the bit all weekend to get there. So this moring I got there around 9am.
Things were really slow.
Started in the farm fields, Oh this house and farm is from 1690s.
The only thing i found in there was the blow hole button.
Then i went around the back of the house and found a big iron patch.
I believe its one of the trash pits.
Started pull some high tones out.
The bell, lantern parts, the horse.
I talked to Bill D, he suggested a little test pit, so i did. Small one maybe 2foot by 2foot, maybe 12 14 inch down..Thats were I found the clay marbles and then the 1802 LC.
Last friday when i got the permission i did a sweep of the front and found the IH and buckle..
Thanks Bill for the help.
Enjoy pics. And thanks for looking
George

Awesome finds! You always find some killer stuff.

Vino nice finds,vanzutphen

Nice stuff George, I got skunked with my water hunt. I'm blaming my AT Pro (how about that?) it couldn't handle the salt water!

Still had a great time, met a real nice guy.

Nice finds George. The button is really cool man, and the IH cleaned up real nice. Next time we hunt I want to pick your brain about test pits. It's amazing you nailed an LC in that 2'x2' area.

Remember, tomorrow 9-3 if you're interested.

Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve.
But I have no clue about pits..
You have to ask Bill.
Will see about tomorrow.

NICE DIGS !!

George - glad to see you dug a nice test hole to sample your pit. Did you get to the bottom of it at 12-14"? That was a great find with the LC. Was that a shallow find that was masked by the iron, or did it come from the bottom half of the pit? Based on your description I feel this is just a ditch that was filled in, probably sometime in the 1800s, but it could still have some nice finds including whole bottles. But based on the age of the site there has to be some earlier ones somewhere. Even though this pit doesn't not appear to be colonial, it'll be a great one for you to learn from and gain some valuable pit digging experience. You really need to get that sifter made and bring it with you the next time there. I think you'll be surprised at what you miss with just the detector and your eyeballs. Good luck, and don't hesitate to give me a ring anytime if you have any questions.

Cool bell! Nice going on getting the copper and marbles from the dig, good day for sure.

Thanks Bill.
The LC, i found with the pinpionter in the pit. It was nails, as i was sticking it in and the LC rang out in the side wall.. I dont believe i got to the bottom. But I can see alot is being masked by all the nails and iron.
I will definitely make that sifter this week..
Thanks for all your help and pushing me to do that test today.
George

When I think of nails and iron strewn everywhere, I think of the front area your magic site. That would be the perfect sifting location!!! I'm sure the most amazing finds yet are right there under all that iron.

great finds George, very cool knocking out some good stuff from a small test pit, ill be watching for more cool stuff from that site in the future!

Interesting digs. I love the coins. That IHP has a lot of detail. Congrats on a very successful hunt.
