I just bought a new MXT from Kellyco. They are sending me a coupon for the White's sale of a choice of 4 coils, a pin pointer, and headphones for $99. The coil that I think would be good would be either the 10 or 12 inch DD coils. They also offer 2 small oval coils. Which coil should I get? I plan on doing a lot of prospectin in NV come spring when I thaw out. Help me out guys and gals. Which coil should I get to enhance the detecting capabilities of the MXT that is offered in this deal?

I would go with the smaller coil for getting between the trash, rocks and brush. It will be more sensitive to smaller nuggets.

6x10" DD is probably the way to go. It can pick up gold down to 1/3 grain and the small DD won't do much better. For a small coil, get the Kellyco small elliptical DD.. it's supposedly more sensitive than the small White's DD and goes deeper. I prospected extensively with the MXT w. 6x10" DD and a buddy of mine has both of the White's elliptical DD's and testing, with real gold nuggets in the ground, didn't show much difference between the two coils.. 'cept that the larger one has much more ground coverage. One thing to do when you start nugget hunting is to max out the sensitivity and the HyperSat. You'll get a ragged threshold, but it will get the depth and the small bits. The AZ/NV area is generally not as hot, ground that is, as where I hunt up in B.C. (or the Arctic) and I could run the MXT maxxed out up here or wherever I was down there. ..Willy. BTW, the ground here generally runs anywhere from 84 to 86 on the VDI

Thank you for the information. It has been 15 years since I bought a new detector. The last one was a goldmaster/vsat. I am looking forward to using it once the snow is gone.....jim

Congrats on your new Bad A$$ machine. I posted my opinions on your other post. Go for the GOLD. HH

I have not been out with it yet because of the 2 to 3 foot of snow and it is still snowing. But, I have had a chance to play with it in the house and I am amazed by it. I have fallen in love with the MXT. It's recovery on close targets are phenomenal! Although it is only 2 tone and I frequency, it can differentiale easily between ferrous and non ferrous targets. It takes just 10 seconds to set it up in any of three modes with alternate programs with the pinpointer pushed forward. For dummies like me it is easy to set up and go and I am very happy with it but it is still the honeymoon.......jim

I would go with the White's 6X10 DD coil for prospecting. It's a great coil and I have found it to be able
to find anything your looking for, especially gold. It works real well for gold jewelry. Hope this helps.
Doug

I got a 6X10 dd from Poppa. He was great to do business with. I got a chance for 30 minutes last week, during a warm spell, to use is in the park where there was no snow or ice. I was only able to dig in the sand. The rest of the ground was frozen like concrete. I really enjoyed using it bundled up in a snow suit with a wool cap and mittens...... :tard:

6x10 DD for sure ,, I used mine today for the first time ,,, awesome guzz1

I just got the D2 coil in it rocks. I have the 6X10DD,950,5.3 amd the 12 inch that comes with the 300. I have to say the D2 is my new all around coil.
