AT PRO GARRETT
Hello everyone.. Wow there are some beautiful finds. I am new to the MD lifestyle (will be 1 month on June 7th) , just bought my AT PRO Garrett Metal detector and I am loving it. I have been to Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Hallandale, and Crandon Park Beaches. Obviously I have found a lot of trash but I have found some coins and some custom type jewelry. I have only used my MD 4 times and I am looking for some MD partners here in South Florida... Hoping to find some good stuff soon. Since I am a newbie it would be great if someone could share some tips or locations near Miami to visit. The picture shows the $0.84 cents and custom jewelry I have found. Nothing too exciting but I am loving it.

Wow! :o You're just starting out and you started with a Garrett AT Pro! I'm a newbie myself and after 7 months I still using my trusty Ace 350! I hope to graduate to a Pro one day! :laughing7:

Very nice finds eawoman, the best is yet to come!

That's a good start! I detected there for 17 years when I lived in S.W. miami. I always had great luck at old school yards. The one I remember most was "Citrus Grove" elementary school. I believe it was close to downtown miami. If you can, hunt there. It was very unassuming but had been around since the early 1900's. The playground area was very small. I hunted it with my old Garrett Master hunter and came away with over 3,000 coins. There were times when I would find 4 or 5 silver coins in the same hole! With todays detectors, there's bound to be more there to be found.
Happy Hunting!!

Welcome to T-Net and the MD Lifestyle! Maybe you can snag some Spanish treasure booty off one of the treasure beaches down there?

Hey eawoman, Welcome!
I'm up here in Ft Laud, well, almost in the Everglades, out west.
It's such a schlepp for me to do Miami, parking costs, traffic, etc......I usually hang in Broward.
You live on the beach and got free parking? :laughing7:

Did we meet at the bandshell on beach few weeks ago, in S Broward, you told me, you buy gold?
Your avatar pik, looked kinda like the lady I spoke with.

There is much going on down there. I do hope to get to talk with you again soon!
Have a great day and good luck swinging!

I love the moon thingy, nice finds eawoman, and I hope alot more.

Hello Everyone... Thank you for the warm welcome and wishes... Love this new hobby/addiction. :headbang:

I have three years with my ACE250 and have paid for it more than ten times over. The longer I use it the more I find. I am on the left coast so do not know about Fla. I do know that the more that you use your machine the more and better finds you make. Welcome to the ADDICTION and to T.N. HHHH

Good for you! I am pretty new to the sport, too, been using an Ace 250, though I had an old White's 6000DL Pro for a little while before I really started getting obsessive. Only recently- in the last month or so- did I begin to start finding some interesting things - several pieces of sterling jewelry, 10 silver coins to date including a 1912 Barber dime and and a Walking Liberty half dollar, a few collectible items: a 1930's Rollfast bicycle badge (sold on ebay), a 1920's Marmon luxury car sterling car badge, and a Smokey Bear ring (also sold on ebay). The weirdest thing I found was a crudely fashioned bronze dagger, almost long enough to be a short sword.

I've been studying the history of the area, hoping to find spots that could contain historic relics. But development has been so intense and constant in the longer settled areas that finding searchable historic ground is proving difficult. But, I'm certain I've only "scratched the surface" as it were...

I live in far west Broward, but a lot of my finds have been in Miami because i'm down there on the weekends usually. I'm interested in traveling anywhere in the area I can find some good ground; I wouldn't mind having someone to share the driving and gas expense, in fact I'd enjoy the company. And two people would be more likely to find something and prove whether a spot had potential or not. I plan on getting a beach hunting/water machine soon. If anyone has a recommendation, let me know. I'm thinking a Minelab Excalibur would be a good one as some shallow water scuba hunting could be in the mix.

I should add, that my best success in "treasure hunting" has been from yard and estate sales. But, I'm hoping that this can rival that one day soon.

That's amazing, especially since I was told the exact same story by a guy walking by while I was detecting at my dad's place. "thousands of silver coins," he said (was that you?). Unfortunately, the school campuses are mostly all locked up now, you can't get out on the playgrounds or fields. I visited my own old elementary, silver bluff, and although it was the exception not being completely locked up (the field had the old style of an opening with a narrow entrance created by a short facing piece of fence), a city of miami cop was lurking among the portables and after checking me out allowed me to continue but advised me to remember that I "was on a school site." But there was no silver to be found. I had already checked that site twice earlier in the last year or so, so I'd be surprised if there is still a single silver coin anywhere on the grounds - except maybe under the oldest of the portables or maybe masked by the fence. Of course, me and my ace 250 are not the best detection team out there, but in any case, the pickings would be slim to none i think. I did find a wheatie in the swale at shenandoah middle, but it was in a weird spot among tangled roots which may be why it was missed. Anyway, it had mower damage. i will say this...clads are always plentiful during the school year in the outside lawns by the sidewalks which are not fenced. Kids don't seem able to keep change in their pockets.
