Hi to all ......... New member, long time detectorist
I've been detecting for about 15 years on and off, mostly off. Trying to get active again. Most of my experience has been finding coins and miscellaneous stuff. My Dad was heavy into it for many many years in Central New Jersey....he used the old fashion detectors (the manual discrimination type)..gosh I hate those..never got it right. Well he willed me one of his old machines, which I made an attempt to conquer, but never got the hang of it. I recently purchased a Garrett GTX-1000 and I love it..Its great for finding coins and most metal...Have never found any GOLD with it..I'm sure there's something I'm not doing right. I made a trip several years ago to Atlantic City, found almost $20.00 in recent clad, but no good stuff. I'm planning a trip to the Texas gulf coast (Padre Island) before the cold weather sets in. If anyone can share their experience with how to work the good areas where the jewelry ends up I would appreciate any assistance anyone could share with me.

Welcome to the forum!
I'm not much of a water hunter, but I used to hunt before there was such a thing as discrimination on detectors. You had to rely on the sound. Not the high /low types, but the smoothness, width, and intensity of the signal. In order to find gold you will have to dig lots of pull tabs. Just get out and use it, and you too, will be making some nice finds.
